Question

What do the respected scholars and the muftis of Islam say regarding this matter that can one do the Sunnah I’tikaf in the last 10 days of Ramadan at praying area[not declared Masjid]?

A waqf Masjid is a condition for the I’tikaf of men. Since the praying area is not a Masjid, hence, men cannot perform I’tikaf there. According to Ahnaaf, the only place other than the Masjid, which only women can perform I’tikaf at, is the place that has been specified for Salah at home, which is called ‘Masjid-e-Bayt’. For men’s I’tikaf, Masjid is compulsory by all means, I’tikaf at praying area[not declared Masjid] will not be correct at all.
