Sahari and Fasting

Sahari And Fasting

Darulifta Ahlesunnat

(Dawateislami)

Question

What have Islamic scholars ruled on the following query? In Ramadhan, a person awoke late thinking that the time for Sahari is still remaining so he continued eating. He later finds out that the time for Sahari had elapsed, but he still keeps the fast. Is his fast valid or not? If this happened, then what is the ruling now? Is there a sin and Kaffarah [expiation] for it? Please provide guidance on this.Questioner: Qaari Sajid Attari (Narwal)

In the case of the questioner, his fast is not valid. It is Fard on him to do Qada (repeat) of that day’s fast, meaning he will have to keep another fast in place of that one, but there is no expiation over it and since it happened by mistake, so there is no sin either. Remember that even though the fast is not valid in this case, but it is Wajib to spend the remaining day in the way of a fasting person. Therefore, if anyone faced this situation and did not spend the entire day as a fasting person, then he will definitely become sinful.
